Volume 1 begins with a visual overture. After that you’ll find images and text of 138 markers and historical sites as they are installed in 27 countries—but arranged in order of the unfolding story. Great for browsing and exploring. In the next part, you can take in the stories as words alone for ease of that special flow of reading. The folio also includes appendices and indices as well as an extensive glossary of over 600 Kcymaerxthaereal words in myriad languages and even Kcy writing systems. That’s just Volume 1.
Volume 2 is a handy portable version of the stories told as well in the text from the markers so far—but sized perfectly for the plane or bedtime (we call it the “Cozy Book”). Together, the two books that make up this Folio are definitely the most complete publication to date. (The author’s Facebook page has more images and some conversations with owners of Folio 1.)
Why does it cost so much? It is a limited edition artist’s book about 700 rich pages long, with beautiful handmade batik cover, based on a year and a half of dedicated research & production, comprising two volumes and celebrating 15 years of installations. It was a big project. And: Only 1415 of the 2 volume folios will be made.
That sounds like a lot, but there are two factors to remember: First, they will be spread over 23 languages. And, second, very few are for sale, because the remainder are earmarked for the communities where Kcymaerxthaere is installed. We’ll even be giving them to a local school and library in each installation community—ask us if there is a folio in a library near you.
